Just got myself a Shield so to drive my 4K TV. The Mibox, Minix and FireTV do the job for the 1080 TV's in the house. Trying to figure out best settings however. I hear upscaling best done by TV - as most content I play is 1080p does that mean I hard limit the shield to 1080 and manually change for 4K content? The Shield recommends a 4K setting - but I noticed the TV (a Bravia) does not seem to go into a /24 mode when feeding it movies - stays in /59.xx at 4K. Picture looks amazing through - blows the Mibox and Bravia android TV internal away....
Any recommendations??
p.s. the Shield goes through an AVR first. Could it be the HDMI cable has problems with high speed??
Kodi v18 has Alpha versions of auto resolution switching.
You want to have ALL non 4K content be upscaled by the much superior hardware upscaler in the Sony 4K TV because the Shield itself had pretty poor 1080p > 4K picture upscaling vs the competition. You will have to hard select an output resolution if not using Kodi v18
So as Mr Cleaner said below for all other non Kodi 4K capable Apps get used to manually switching between 720, 1080 and 4K all the time in Android Settings if you want the best picture quality.
BTW: if the MINIX is a S912 variety if will handle all this auto resolution, auto refresh, auto colorspace switching a LOT better when running LibreELEC Kodi Krypton vs anything running Android TV.
