Mi Box w/ Oreo doesn't recognize my external HDD in ExFat

by otakkuma

Hi! I just updated to Oreo on the Mi Box, and although I'm happy it finally happened, now my external hard drive is not recognized anymore. If I plug in any random USB stick in FAT32 it works as intended, but my ExFat drive, which of course worked perfectly fine with Marshmallow, now in Kodi has the name truncated to the first letter and if I try to open it I get a "path not found or invalid" error. In the notification center if I try to browse the drive it still doesn't work. Do you have any idea on how to troubleshoot/fix this? The only thing I did was update to Oreo (the official OTA), and of course I can't use FAT32 on the hard drive because of the 4GB per file limit. I really need to play my files in Kodi from my external drive and this update killed it :/

It looks like it's a widespread issue. Now: where to send an official bug report? Google? Xiaomi? Yell at the clouds?

Oddly, I can see my files under VLC player. Even played a family home video. Its not the update per se, I think this may be a kodi incompatibility issue.

Definitely not Kodi, I cant even point Kodi to the same path as VLC. Someone in another post said it was a missing documentsui file from Android.

NTFS USBs not working for me, hopefully it's a bug that will get corrected soon

A temporary solution for me is using Archos Video Player. It's not as capable as Kodi, but it plays my files and with Passthrough mode 2 I'm not having issues at the moment

Same here!

Same with kodi and mxplayer. One day I'll throw this useless box out of the window

Have the same problem here... somebody got a workaround?

Suggest we all contact their support. I just did.

Seems like the issue is ntfs/exfat. If the HDD is fat32 than all is good and kodi sees it perfectly. I just converted a disk to fat32 and it works.

Same deal for me. Oreo update ppears to have no exFat or NTFS support. Surely we'll get an fix asap when this is known by all and sundry!!!

any news regarding this issue?

personally, I can access the hard drive content, and also save new files (but only to local folder of the app accessing it, not to the root of the drive). however, I cannot delete existing files...

I sent my complain to to the support. I suggest you all to do the same. Their response:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Right now, we are getting a lot of emails and calls after the official Oreo Update for our MI Box. Our department are already aware of the current situation that most of our customers are experiencing and we assure you that we are already collating all the issues they are currently having. We have already forwarded this to our developers and they are already working on this as soon as possible.

Regards and thank you,

Anna

Dad got same issue when we ran both of our MiBoxs through his Marantz amp. If we plug both directly to his TV they both worked but not when we use his Marantz amplifier (which is HDCP 2.2).

Used to work before the Oreo update...

Now Kodi work for me perfectly
