Is an AndroidTV from Sony really better than a regular TV with Android Box or Chromecast?

by jedicwb

Hi!
I'm asking this because I already enjoy using my Chromecast for doing everything TV related, specially with Google Home commands, and was thinking about getting a Sony TV with Android embedded for even more possibilities.

Than I noticed that Xiaomi's MiBox actually runs Android TV (the good one, not tablet interface crap) and also have google Cast, making it an enhanced Chrome Cast. But still, it is an external device and cannot do anything outside of the HDMI it is plugged on. Or can it? (I know it can turn tv on and off, but what else?)

The question is: what type of Google Home commands you can perform with an Sony Android TV that you wouldn't be able to perform with a MiBox? Can someone give me some examples?

Further more, I like to keep my Chromecast plugged into a wall socket so its always ready to do it's thing, regardless of the TV being on or off. Can I do the same with a MiBox? how is the power consumption?

You will be disappointed as chromecast and chromecast built in(android tv) do not have the same functionality especially voice commands if chromecast is working for you stay with it

I've been using Google home commands with my MIBox for the past few days and it seems to work identical to a setup with Chromecast. In my case though, the casting won't be always available as the mibox seems to turn itself off after a while, and your latency mileage may vary if you're using screen capture casts. If your current setup works stick with it. But if you're upgrading from to a 4k TV and find a good deal on a 4k TV with Android TV built-in (preferably Oreo), then go for it!
