MiBox 3 Oreo Update No Sound

by MacMcEachern

No sound after update. My other MiBox works great.

What I have tried...

  • Restart MiBox
  • Restart TV
  • Unplug HDMI from MiBox
  • Unplug HDMI from TV
  • Unplug power cord from MiBox
  • Factory reset MiBox
  • Checked MiBox volume and sound settings
  • Checked TV volume and sound settings

Had the same problem, audio cut out after 5 seconds. Had to turn off Dolby and Surround Sound and reboot.

Oreo forced the update on me overnight and now NO AUDIO... I'm a bit pissed. If anyone has ID'd a fix, suggestions would be awesome.

Same thing happened to me. I thought I was going crazy until I figured it out lol.

This is affecting me too. Sound works when the box is just started. But after I turn off my TV and then return to mi box I have to restart to get sound. Really annoying! I wish I could go back to marshmallow.

Under MM, I had my MiBox hooked up to an older TV with just regular stereo via a 3 way HDMI splitter, and never had any audio problems when switching inputs or turning off/off the TV, etc etc.

Then after Oreo, I began to realize I'd often lose all sound on my MiBox after turning off and later coming back and turning on the TV. It usually took just a simple MiBox restart to fix that, and the sound would come back upon restart. Annoying, but OK.

Then just today, somehow, I was getting that problem AND even when the sound came back, the audio would play about 5 seconds and then silence while the video would still play. Absolutely no changes to any of my hardware connections. Possible I somehow, somewhere made a MiBox settings change, but if I did, I can't identify it at this point.

So today, I finally have gotten the 5 second issue fixed, apparently. First, I unplugged the other two HDMI connections and just left the MiBox alone connected to my splitter. But in the MiBox, I turned off a bunch of settings -- Dolby sounds and surround sound, all the options under Playback controls, and all the options under CEC controls.

And after a restart, that seems to have fixed the 5 seconds problem. And with that done, I'll now go back and start trying to restore the other things, like plugging in my other two HDMI inputs, etc etc, and try to narrow down just what part of my various changes caused/fixed the sound problem.

Any settings or connection changes you're going to make to try to fix/identify this problem probably need to be done one or a few at a time, followed each time by a MiBox restart and then test after restart, in order to figure out just what the cause and solution are.

I'm having issues as well. 5.1 audio was basically killed with this update. Sound cuts out in both Netflix and Google Play movies. Youtube seems to be okay, but I haven't tested any other apps. For now, I've turned off surround sound on the Mi Box and set my receiver to Dolby Pro Logic. Welcome to 1987. Ugh. :(

FYI So I tried the MiBox on another TV and it workds fine so it seems to be a TV/MiBox compatability issue :(

I've now tried a factory reset to no avail. So if you were thinking about trying that, save yourself the headache. Because it looks like it won't do you any good. 😒

Does anyone know why now I can use my Mibox remote to control the sound on the TV?
