MiBox Oreo Bugs

by jmjxperia

I found some bugs that were not present in Marshmallow .

These are bugs in the latest update

  1. I couldn't find Picture in picture mode in Youtube(i dont know if its exclusive for Youtube RED)
  2. External hard drives are not getting detected. Especially NTFS format
  3. There are lags in the home screen
  4. I couldn't find recent app switcher (exists in Sheild) 5.Sound doesnt work sometimes, need to restart
  5. Increasing Volume level upto 50% makes good sound coverage to my room in the case of MM,but in Oreo it doesnt.
  6. Too much White in volume level box
  7. Voice search problem . When i tap on Voice button near search bar,it gets closed immediately sometimes.Happens mostly inPlaystore ,Youtube 9.Auto update apps seems not to be working .It shows downloading but its not actually downloading.I have to close and re enable the update in the Playstore

Updating to Oreo was a bad choice , I dont know why Beta testers couldnt report these bugs

Bugs reported by other users:

1.MiBox that do not seem to decode correctly the audio in mp2

  1. Issue with wifi both 2.4 and 5 Ghz- Connection dropping everytime I try to stream something or download an on thr play store. Basically anytime you try to use the internet, it drops out

  2. Sometimes getting a freezing up issue when watching video. Audio stutters, picture stops and I can't exit the screen

  3. Can't move channels up or down without mouse

  4. Some sideloaded stores can't install any app (they just redownload the entire app without showing the package installer)

  5. Recommendations and "Play next" feature not working for Netflix and some other apps

  6. When installing a new app from play store I can't open the app drawer or the launcher restarts itself

I have added bugs where people replied to my comments.I hope this list will help users to notify and developers of Mi Box to find the solution

I reported the above bugs to Xiaomi customer care .Here is the reply

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for emailing us back.

Right now, we are getting a lot of emails and calls after the official Oreo Update for our Mi Box. Our department are already aware of the current situation that most of our customers are experiencing and we assure you that we are already collating all the issues they are currently having. We have already forwarded this to our developers and they are already working on this as soon as possible.

On behalf of our team, we sincerely apologize. We will get back to you as soon as we have an update.

Thank You,

Anna

  1. See this for PIP Youtube: [Update: Rolling out widely in the US] YouTube testing picture-in-picture mode for those without Red subscriptions
  2. My external HD works, but only with some apps. Ex: MxPlayer doesn't find videos, but no problem with VLC
  3. Can't find that either, although I figured out there's another way to reach your apps if you long press home (does it work only from home?)

1 - Can't move channels up or down without mouse 2 - Bluetooth not working 3 - Voice search not working properly on google play store (not searching inside play store) 4 - Some sideloaded stores can't install any app (they just redownload the entire app without showing the package installer) 5 - Recommendations and "Play next" feature not working for Netflix and some other apps 6 - Recent apps not showing up 7 - When installing a new app from play store I can't open the app drawer or the launcher restarts itself 8 - Shutdown still not possible -_- (Xiaomi, how can I move my Mi Box around without corrupting data after unplug it from the wall?) 9 - Can't install Plex Media Server (It was working on my old Beelink GT1 Ultimate) 10 - Ugly interface (Not what I was expecting from Google) :/

Please Xiaomi, fix that, please...

Sorry for the bad English, I'm Brazilian.

I'm getting issues with stuttering video or occasional short dropout of audio (Netflix only) that was not there on MM. I have seen it in 3 different apps now (Netflix, YouTube TV, and Hulu). I suspect it may be related to the new codec support on Oreo, and the fact that the Mi can't keep up with decoding. "Stats for nerds" in Youtube TV shows zero dropped frames, a constant 15-30 sec buffer, and plenty of speed, so this is definitely not a WiFi/Steaming problem. This did not happen in MM. This problem does not occur on my Nexus Players (also Oreo), so it is specific to the Mi Box.

I didn't check, but did they actually bother to do a 64-bit port this time? MM was only 32-bit...what a waste of a processor.

Very occasional WiFi dropout also occurs, but I also get this on the Nexus Player, it's a known Oreo issue.

If you have not upgraded yet, I would advise against it for the time being, the update doesn't appear to fix anything useful that I saw, except that it gives you the new Oreo Android TV interface, which is nice, but not worth all the bugs.

I have updated mine yesterday and since I have had no problem. For WiFi I use the 5ghz band of my router and I have constant connection. After the update I have spent almost 5 hours checking out all the apps and I'm quite happy to see that YouTube is now working really well. Today I'm going to renew my Netflix subscription to see how's Netflix performing.

PS: NTFS bug might be present in mine as well but I use FAT on usual cases.

My box's voice recognition is screwed, I already did a factory reset and nothing, also having lags on home screen

luiguisf

Haven't experienced that bugs, just updated a couple of days ago. But if Mi Box goes to sleep it cannot woken up with the remote, I have to unplug it and reconnect it from power outlet and is really annoying.

Anyone having Bluetooth issues? I can't apir any game controllers... Wanting to try steam link..

gatolive986

Same problems as you encounter .. :(

Audio sttuters in almost all my applications. Radioline, KODI.
And Archos Video Player has problems with DTS and volume control from mibox through amp.

I was previously on beta android TV nougat and it was better :(
Bad way for our Xiaomi MiBOX

"5.Sound doesnt work sometimes, need to restart"

I encountered this yesterday. I went thru all Sound setting options without any luck. After Restart sound was back. This is bad if this happens everytime I try to use the box :/

Its the forced upgrade that gets me. If you dont intend to test your code, then label something beta, stick a warning on it and make it voluntary.

Also facing huge issues with streams after the oreo update. Streams start buffering, wireless connection seems to be very slow after update. I even bought a usb to ethernet adapter to stream over a cable, it is not as bad as over wireless connection but still buffering constantly. Hope to get an update soon.

I'm also getting a tone of bugs after the update. Wifi hangsoff every 5min , video stuterings on YouTube and Netflix, system doesn't come up from standby so I have to disconnect the power to turn it on. Why God!? Why !? Wheres the roll back button ?

DJFliX

My girlfriend uses the Mi Box daily and I must say that in the last two weeks the box has been working pretty good! Yes, there is the occasional audio stutter now and then, but I haven't experienced any of the other issues. I'm using 5GHz wifi, FHD TV, Onkyo TX-NR656 and I upgraded from an early Nougat beta.

Yes, the device support has sucked for the past years , and yes the quality of the software is sub-par. But I can live with that experience considering the price I paid for this nearly-UHD-capable Chinese garbage device. Buying the shield might have been a more solid investment (considering the development capacity dedicated to the Shield at Nvidia compared to Xiaomi) but I didn't have the money at the time and all things considered I don't regret my choice.

Is anyone facing problem casting apps to Mi-Box from Android or PC?

umeshkjanjua

Also add erratic WiFi connection to this list, can't confirm but it seems that WiFi issue is being faced by people who are using single band (2.4Ghz) WiFi routers

DeeoKan

Also I'm facing issues with standby: periodically my TV says that the Mi Box is ready, even if it's in standby mode. I'm force to unplug the power supply when I'm not using the MiBix.
