Troubleshooting Tips for MDZ-16-AB OREO

by koshergoy

First and foremost, performing Factory Data Reset from Settings/Storage & Reset, followed by 2 complete power cycles will be useful

If your update results in a boot-loop and your home screen fails to appear, follow the steps at this link https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/8tr6cl/mdz16ab_oreo_cant_wait_link/ Be sure to follow the bolded section

If you have an AVR in your setup and are getting black screen after update, disconnect all your devices from power source for 5-10 minutes and try again. This will serve to reset the HDMI connections.

This is a compilation of effective hints found circulating the interwebs.

Nice write up. Thank you.

This honestly falls under general troubleshooting of any freshly updated electronic.

  • Off/on (power cycle) everything
  • Factory reset the newly updated thing
  • Disconnect and reconnect everything

I updated my MiBox Monday night, worked fine. Last night though, I had no audio. Unplugging and replugging HDMI would make audio work for 5-10 seconds. Switched inputs, factory reset, etc but nothing helped. Left it unplugged from power & HDMI overnight.. and this morning it seemed to work fine. We'll see tonight if it's still fixed or not.

Here's how I fixed it, disconnected from TV and connected HDMI to a monitor; went to settings > Display > Screen resolution > turned off "Auto switch to best resolution" > chose "Display Mode" > selected 1080p-50hz. Turned it off, reconnected to my TV and all is well.
