App list that supports channel?

by npaladin2000

Now that Oreo is really a thing, maybe we should keep track of what can take advantage of it? So far I've got the following (Skipping the usual suspects).

  • Haystack TV
  • Sling
  • AccuWeather
  • NFL
  • CBS

Kinda dissapointed in the NFL implementation, it just gives you top stories, not favorite teams. Sling is great though, favorite shows channel, DVR channel, and favorite channels channel. That's the way to do it IMHO. Haystack is pretty good too, you can even add entries to the Play Later list, but it doesn't kick you back it after that video, Haystack keeps you in their app on the same playlist.

I have a few that manipulates channels (puts "recommendations" aka ads) but none that actually places anything of value yet. The closest would be Vue, which shows last channel and last watching, then ads ("featured").

Netflix doesn't show your list, Vudu and Google Movies doesn't show owned videos, Twitch doesn't show followed, etc.

I hope that they will be updated soon.

Edit: Pluto is actually pretty good with it. However if you use Live Channels, Google hasn't updated that app yet.

Hulu - But shows only a few old shows w/o an update FoxNow - Recommendations FX - Recommendations HBOGo - Adds nicely to the Watch Next Starz PlutoTV - Featured Channel's and Movies, shows live previews Plex - The Watch Next list and News Reccs NBC Netflix - Suggestions by Profile MLBTV - Shows all games when live

I've seen that ESPN supports it but not yet working on my Sheild or MiBox

The best implementation of the channels I've seen so far is Red Bull TV with video thumbnails, ability to add to watch next and also a good few different channel types you can select.

I'm pretty happy with Sling's channels. They have my favorites (shows, on demand), my favorite channels, recordings, and then just the general "recommended" bar.

My only complaint with it is I'm not sure how often the channels are updated, I know the favorite channels might not be current and doesn't change exactly on the hour/half hour mark when shows change. It's a minor inconvenience since it will open the app and then I'll have to manually select the channel. It's not a major lag, it's most of the time current, but I have noticed this a couple of times on both the shield and the mibox.
