Can't Chromecast Netflix from phone to Mi-Box Oreo?

by BadBreath911

I have a Mi-Box with Oreo on it. I DO NOT have a Netflix account. My friend does have Netflix, and wanted to cast Netflix from his phone, to my Mi-Box.

However, unlike other services, like YouTube, instead of loading the cast interface, it tries to load the Netflix Android TV interface. Which, naturally, doesn't work, because I don't have a Netflix account on my Android TV.

This basically means that he can not cast Netflix from his phone, to my TV.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

casting isn't supported on android tv at all with netflix yet (not just mibox), you need to open the app on mibox first and then you can choose what movie to play from your phone.

It's how Netflix decided to work sadly. You need to be signed in on the same account on both the phone and ATV for "casting" to work. It's frustrating for me too since a family member recently moved in and we both have separate Netflix accounts.

Every time I try my Google home to cast Netflix to mibox I get response that Android TV doesn't support casting (from Netflix). Can any one confirm it works on Nvidia shield as well?

Try doing a system level cast rather than app level casting

Or cast from a Chrome browser on a computer

It wasn't worked with androidtv 6.0. When you have netflix app installed, then it started the app instead of casting. When you deleted the app, then cast ui started, but showed an error message.

Now, with androidtv 8.0 you cannot delete the app. You can disable it, but casting then does not do anything, probably because of the disabled, but still installed app.

Your friend can log in on your device. I also have separate account for netflix. But of cousre, logging out is not easy, because android has some smar log in feature that remembers and logs in automatically when i reinstall the app on different device.
