Youtube app rant... No more scrubbing through videos? Really?

by deadmeat1240

--TL:DR - The latest version of the Youtube app is better, but still bad. Are there alternate youtube players that can be sideloaded?--

What a backslide this app has taken. Wow. It is worse in every way than the previous version. You know... the red and white one. the one that worked fine and did not need to be updated in any way. NOT the grey one. I made the COLOSSAL MISTAKE of updating to the newest version of shield TV and the good ole red and white app no longer works. How does a company make every aspect of a core application for an OS worse with iteration? Why do you take useful features away? It takes more button presses to do things now but I was ready to deal with it because my subscriptions were at least usable now. Unlike when they threw this hot piece of garbage on us a year ago.

But how the h*ll do you take out something as simple as being able to fast forward/rewind through videos? WTF! Total B*llsh*t! This is simple usability stuff here. Do they have monkeys making these apps now? The only reason to use the silly "Gamepad" that came with the shield tv was the cool ability to scrub through a video with the triggers. That and the fact that the batteries do not stop holding a charge after one year like my 2 shield remotes. News flash for Google Programmers - Videos are no longer limited to 10 minutes. Nothing like missing something someone said in the middle of a 60 minute video and having NO WAY TO GET BACK TO THAT SPOT without watching the entire video again. in real time.

If I am missing something simple here then I'll delete this whole thing. Please make me delete this. But I pressed every frickin' button on that stupid Batarang and the scrubbing feature is just plain not there anymore.

Just go on the progress bar and move with the left and right.

vizNNN

The hell are you even talking about? Go up to the video’s progress bar and move left or right...

Press up to go to the progress bar. Navigation is now Netflix like, much better imo.

And if you have Android Oreo and the latest YouTube update, you can even ask Google assistant to skip ___ minutes and it'll skip those minutes

Okay, it's actually double tap up. That is kind of important. Triggers were still much more handy but at least It is usable now.
