Full Spec Android TV = Google Certified devices that includes Google Chromecasting capabilities and devices have all the necessary DRM and HDCP certificates and approvals for up to 4K Netflix & Prime Video etc.
.
Amazon Fire TV's = running Fire OS which is Google's Android OS modded by Amazon. 4K devices have all the necessary DRM and HDCP certificates and approvals for up to 4K Netflix & Prime Video etc
Both of the above use simple wireless D-Pad remotes Up/Down, Left/Right, OK and back button. No need to use a bloody difficult to use Air mouse.
.
Vanilla Android Boxes connected to a TV = tablet/touchscreen Android OS with touchscreen Apps. A difficult to use Air mouse needed.
Usually not at all bug busted or customised but shipped out the door as quickly as possible at a price as cheaply as possible. NO DRM and HDCP certificates and approvals for even 720p Netflix & Prime Video etc. You cannot even directly install Netflix from the Playstore with virtually all these devices.
Lot and lots of Hype on Websites like Amazon where bullshit, false, paid for reviews abound. Lots of Newbie reviewers that do not have a clue.
.
Devices from major media player sellers, NVIDIA, Amazon, Apple, Xiaomi will usually be more stable vs the vanilla Android Box sellers. Simply due to the developer resources available to bug bust the OS and Firmware.
You're asking the wrong question.
The real question you should be asking is "are all Android TV devices created equal" - and the answer is a resounding 'No'
Android TV has much more to offer - like the Shield TV.
That said - a fire TV will be more stable than a cheap Chinese Android box, but you're stuck with Amazon shoving their crap down your throat 24/7
Well there are Android boxes, Fire TV devices, and Android TV devices. So you're talking about two other platforms in an Android TV subreddit. I mean, all three operating systems are based on Android so I can see why you'd think they could be related, but the platforms are entirely different from each other. The obvious response you'll get here is to actually buy a legit Android TV device like a Mi Box or NVIDIA Shield.
Ok but without causing too much issue. If I want to run say some software like modi or mobdro to try and get some free or cheap iptv premium channels one can only do this on a Chinese type box not an official one?
i will b uy amazon fire then a iptv provider and run it through kodi hopefully this works thankjs
The sheildTv is perfect so it's not an Android problem. Sounds like shitty hardware. Is it overheating?
Now im confused haha I just a cheap box on amazon that runs apps and connects to wifi and tv...Anyway it crashes and reboots every 5mins..so you mean there are better ones that wont crash I just got unlucky.
It is not a stupid question. Since he is posting this in Android TV i assume he is speaking about ATV devices. I’ve had Sony ATV, Mi Box and Shield. You have a lot of room for customisation. You can install every app you’d want, including popcorn time, stremio (stream high quality torrents) and so on. To me Android TV crashes from time to time. It does not happen often, but it happens. My 2018 Samsung 8 series is extremely fast, and more stable, but you can’t do much with it, with the exception of regular streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon etc.
If you were to buy a ATV device, the Shield is the best device out there, but it is expensive. I am pretty sure you would be satisfied with a Mi Box with Oreo unless you don’t accept that an app could crash randomly or that it could be somewhat slow from time to time.
