I have 3 boxes and updated all 3 with no issues. The new home feels weird but other than that all ok. I don't have any 4k TVs though
if it's working perfectly fine for you, don't update. you'll be playing russian roulette.
good breakdown of the update here:
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=275083
if you have a lot of issues with it, nothing to lose.
Better not. I did go with the oreo update and I wish I did not. And for how long can you run the box without doing the update. Isn't it supposed to update automatically?
If you have a hometheatre system + hdcp 2.2 non compliant TV combo, it will render everything useless. Otherwise it's okay I guess.
if your just using it attached directly to a TV , want HD only and dont have a large hdd connexted then you have a greater chance of it working however there are a number of big issues if you mive out of the most basic use and once you have upgraded there is currently no way back.
My suggestion read here, the kodi HW forum review post and the xiaomi.eu forums and make an informed decision
Big no
big NO
I have seen this Oreo mini review just posted over on the Kodi Forums that list a bunch of Negatives and positives:
Dont update
Im having a few problems here myself, kinda regret updating but oh well, hope they have a update to iron out the problems soon
My problems are:
Mibox streaming content became slow over my wifi now
Back key doesnt work on third party remotes/mouse
Usb sometimes disconnects which I have to pull out and plug back in for it to work again
Home screen is alright but do prefer the old look
Updated last night I'd probably advise against it, gained nothing noticable aside from a performance DECREASE
I've had a few hiccups but nothing bad. Overall, it's a lot faster and pleasant to use!
I personally like the new Google Assistant (although voice recognition is not as accurate as in Marshmallow), and picture-in-picture for VLC and some other apps. I also like to be able to select which "recommends".
I hated the new home at first, but then came to love it. It was annoying that as a non-USA user, the Mibox was bloated with apps I could never use (CBS, Hulu, etc), which I had to force-stop, disable, delete data.
After my update, some issues remain, some issues are gone. A few more issues are introduced. My thought? Totally worth it. Before update, I use it as a test device and be ready to return it at any time. I can't even watch an HDR movie without hacking. After the update, I finally started to use it as main tv box and retired my mibox3 pro (a much more powerful hardware but does not support 4k hdr).
It’s never auto-updated before but for some reason it did in the middle of the night when it was off so now I have no choice.
NO NO NO!
The new home totally sucks compared to the old one
That's the main disadvantage
I wouldn't. It adds literally nothing except a small decrease in performance and a much worse UI. I don't know what all the fuss over the last year was about on this sub.
yes
No!
True, there are a lot of people having issues. But remember you'll always mainly read about the complaints. I'm perfectly happy with Oreo for example. Maybe we should make a poll or something...
Sorry, can't answer your other question.
