Mi Box remote doesn't work after Oreo update

by noneofyourbizzness

I can't even turn on the me box with the power button on the remote since the Oreo update. To even get the Mi box to turn on, I have to unplug the power cable and then plug back in. After that, I have to press buttons on the remote multiple times and wait until it becomes active again to go through the home screen selections. I unpaired and repair the remote a few times. My next step is to do a factory reset. Any other suggestions?

Not sure if it's common knowledge or not but the remote can be repaired by holding home and back buttons for 10 seconds. This solved my issues when the remote didn't work after the Oreo update.

Same issue. Repaced the battery's and unpaired it. Them pulled the plug in the mibox. After the reboot 30 seconds later it started working

Hmm... I might be having the same problem. I just thought my batteries were dying. I normally use a Harmony 650 paired with a Flirc though, and that's been pretty stable.

bluetooth uses the same frequency as 2.4 Ghz wireless. Same goes for Zigbee devices if you have a smarthome.

If you have wifi in your house, change the wifi channel. Use channel 1, 6, or 11 only so you don't screw over your neighbors.

I also had the issue where I couldn't wake my MiBox using the power button on the remote while it is in sleep mode, but interestingly if I press Back+Home on the remote it powers on the box.

Count me in. But this only happens after the box has been off for a while. There are sleep settings.

Same here! I wonder how long it would take them to fix this Really annoying!

in my case, only the Home button (the circle) doesn't work after the update. I have the Mouse remapper (I don't remember the app name rn) idk if that has something to do with it...

Has this been fixed yet?

This still applies!

An Improbable Fix?

I received my new Mi Box S in the mail this afternoon and set it up with my Samsung TV, using the Mi Box's native remote and allowing the Android 8.1 update to be installed automatically. I installed my VPN so that I can watch my US-based subscriptions. They seemed to work fine. I then turned to You Tube which wouldn't play at all and just produced endless spooling circles on the screen. Eventually, I was forced to do a factory reset. When the Mi Box started again, I used my Android phone to set it up but something went wrong near the end and the screen told me that the setup hadn't completed successfully. I got a slightly smaller setup screen this time when the machine restarted but couldn't get my Mi Box remote to work at all. There is no reset button on the Mi Box itself so I was about to box it up and send it back when I thought of my USB mini keyboard. I plugged in the dongle and it worked! I was able to finish the setup using the mini keyboard and find that You Tube plays just fine now and that the Mi Box remote is working again. The Mi Remote on my phone works fine with my Samsung TV but apparently is not compatible with the Mi Box S. I recommend that people set up their Google accounts manually since the phone setup has some bugs.

So before you send back your Mi Box S, try completing your setup with a USB (WiFi) mini keyboard. You may end up with a well-functioning set-top box as I did.
