Chromecast (Google Cast?) vs native Android TV apps

by Kranon7

Hi everyone. I'm quite a bit confused about something and thought this would be the perfect place to ask about it. I have a Sony Android TV with built-in Chromecast. I typically use the native apps built into the TV (Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube). I am curious, though - what benefit would there be to me "casting" my video versus using the built-in apps (or installing an app if I am missing it from the TV)? Is it a convenience thing, or is there an additional benefit to casting that is not evident to me?

Grey area apps and some other IPTV ones that aren’t on your tv. If you have an android phone you can cast from apps that aren’t entirely on the up and up. If you have an iPhone though, there’s really no point i can see to casting if you already have access to the apps you would be casting from like the ones you mentioned because the grey area ones don’t work on iPhones unless they’ve been jailbroken.

I usually cast YouTube because the Android TV app sucks. From smartphone is easier to search and browse
