Audio (AAC playback) and Video (HDCP) issues after upgrading MiBox to Oreo

by smd999

Last week I was excited to learn that there was finally an update to the MiBox, but after upgrading I now regret it.

My MiBox is hooked up to a projector (Optoma HD33) through my receiver (Denon AVR-X4300H), but the box will no longer output to my projector. I get an error saying " This content cannot be displayed because your TV does not support HDCP 2.2 ". It will only work when connected to my 4K TV. I thought it had to do with Netflix, so I disabled the app but it still won't work.

On the audio front, Kodi will no longer play files that have AAC audio (though files with AC3 audio work).

Both of these worked fine before the upgrade to Oreo. I looked into trying to go back to Marshmallow, and it's pretty involved, so I'd rather try and fix these issues before resorting to that. I also tried doing a factory reset on the MiBox but to no avail.

Has anyone else come across these issues and been able to fix them?

Does Kodi have audio passthrough settings you can disable? Plex has this problem too and requires it be disabled to play audio.

Yeah Oreo and AAC isn't working out for the Mi Box. It's not converting AAC to AC3 for the optical output. My receiver can't decode AAC so right now I'm converting my entire Plex collection to AC3. I'm one week in and got all my movies and about 1/5 of my tv shows done. Should be done by this weekend I hope.

I have a similar setup. Pioneer VSX-831 with an Epson projector. I got the same HDCP error today after the Mi box automatically updated to Oreo. I guess I'm lucky I was able to fix it. My AVR has 6 HDMI ports at the back. 1 through 4 are marked HDCP 2.2 and that's where I get the error. I moved the input to HDMI port 5 or 6 and no errors. I'm also able to passthrough all audio from Kodi and I'm able to play DTS, Dolby and AAC audio.

Had the same issue, but mines got option no sound settings to set up audio output. Not seeing those options like SPDIF, PCM that I used remember playing on to get my audio right. I am getting both sound right now from both speakers connected to and the TV. Had to mute one instead of having it already set up to use only the speakers for audio and not the TV.

Update: After receiving an update for the unit, the HDCP issue is fixed (as well as an issue the caused NTFS USB drives to not be readable).

The Kodi audio issue is still there though.

Update 2: The 5.1 AAC issue is now fixed. Looks like I just had to uninstall/re-install Kodi after getting the latest OTA update.
