Shield TV remote battery warnings

by bowlcut

Anyone else seeing this? I have 2 Shield TV 2017 in my house. Both now showing 'batteries are critically low'. So I replace the batteries and guess what, doesnt go away. Ok something's up. You go into the Shield Accessories menu and it says the remote isnt connected. Well its able to control the unit soooo how is that not connected. Also says update available, currently v1.25 it wants to go to 1.33. Ok click update and it says press button, do that it just goes back to the menu.

It started on my bedroom shield like last night I think. Now here in the living room getting same message and same symptoms. Ive replaced batteries with brand new. Ive 'forget accessory' and re-paired it without any issue. Both doing it via that menu and even doing it via the hold the select button for a few seconds method. I've tried holding down the 3 button reset, 2 buttons, every combo of buttons I can.

I am not an idiot...I do tech related things for a living... I know how to properly troubleshoot things. But now I have 2 units doing the same thing and just recently after this Oreo update. It did update the one controller i have without issue...after i plugged it into power since it was dead and I never use that thing anyway.

Thoughts? Anyone else getting this symptom as well?

did you update both the remote and controller?

Ok new thing now. Nvidia updater pops up now while watching something and says "device needs updating" for the remote or controller. Click update, and it says the remote isnt connected. If its not connected...how did i click update ya fool. This is the most infuriating thing ive dealt with in a long while

Further digging around finally see people complaining at least for the last 2 days on the nvidia forum.

Had the exact same issue too. Right after the update it said remote battery critically low. I just ignored it and I guess after a couple days or a restart or something it has stopped saying that and displays an accurate battery level.

Ive got the exact same issue with a 1.25 remote. Was there a solution?
