Lack of consistency in gamepad support on AndroidTV

by kanarec

Hi guys. I have a MiBox and two controllers:

  • The Xbox360 controller and a wireless USB receiver

  • An Ipega gamepad

Some games, like Pacman 256 and Crossy Road, only work with the Xbox360 gamepad.

Other games, like Retroarch and Age of Chivalry, only work or work better with the Ipega controller.

Morphite doesn't work with the Ipega controller and seems to work fine at first with the Xbox360 but I can't get some functions to work.

Is there a gamepad that works with every game? Why some games work with only one controller?

There are two factors:

  1. Inclusion of the controller in the system's keylayout files.
  2. Inclusion of that particular keylayout support by the program itself.

I've had a lot of luck with the Shield TV default controller. Also (surprisingly) with the OUYA controllers I have paired to it.

AndroidTV, like Android, iOS, Roku, etc are not a gaming device. You can use a shield to stream games from the PC or get a console.

AndroidTV has quick throw-in cheap games, so there will be little consistency and quality.

You should try the Xbox One controller, the one with bluetooth built-in connection.

You're better off with a wired USB controller.
