Take it out of the box

Get a 4K tv with HDR

Get yourself a HDHomeRun. Having everything run through the Shield (I use Live Channels for watching TV through the Shield) makes for a seamless experience. Plex is great too, if you aren't using it already.

Sign up for the GeForce now beta and stream pc games from the cloud!

Im not sure what your using for TV, but YouTube TV runs fantastic on my shield. Also you can play GeForce now online games for free. You might wanna get the shield controller though.

If you plan on doing any game streaming from your PC do yourself a favor and plug it into your wired Ethernet. Also. If your receiver/TV support it turn on the HDMI-CEC stuff. Also go into the video settings gs and make sure the color signal isn't on Limited, even if you don't have an HDR TV. It makes a big difference for most LCD TVs

Yeah, return it..........

whoa whoa...easy with those downvotes, let me explain .

The following apps I use regularly on my Mi Box with Oreo with no issue so I recommend them for your Shield:

Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, YouTube, Fox Sports, X-plore, VLC, Kodi, RetroArch (emulators for NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, and Arcade with 1,000 roms installed).

So far I've just gone through the basic setup process and updated it. My plan is to download Terrarium TV (alternative to Kodi) and some emulators. I've heard Dolphin works pretty well on Nvidia Shields.

Any other good apps/games or tips?

Invunche

Archos Video Player for your own files.

FlipprDolphin

You can buy my 2 controllers I have for sale. :)

Aptoide TV and then download the Morpheus tv app. I used puffin browser to get Aptoide.

Don't put the remote in your butt.

edgan

Don't update to Oreo. It is buggy, and has issues with wifi.
