The latest official Youtube app is crashing all the time on this box. I believe it is the version 2.03. I tried to clear the data and cache to no affect. Rolled back to previous version always seems to work. I have disabled the auto app updates for now. It was very annoying. Anyone else has a similar issue?
Same problem. MeCool's AndroidTV implementation is slightly wonky, maybe that's it. Or maybe the new version of YouTube requires Oreo? Not sure.

i use NewPipe app, it can handle 1080p
Same here. It crashed after around 15 sec of video playing. How did you roll back to the older version ? I tried to uninstall the youtube app but it won't let me.
I simply uninstalled updates to the system app and then installed a previously stable build from apkmirror

FYI, Netflix stopped working giving a 604 error https://androidpctv.com/solution-for-some-tv-box-with-the-netflix-error-nw-6-404/ .
If the manufacturer would update firmware that should fix things.
I have the Mecool M8S Pro W. The Youtube app used to work fine, but it crashes now as well.
It will play for something like 20-30 seconds, then the image will freeze and the audio will continue, then nothing.
