You may also want to consider trying Adguard. I use it on several of my Android devices (including a MiBox and Nvidia Shield) and can vouch that it works very well at blocking in-ap ads. It does however require a one-time payment for the full version (the free version only blocks ads within browsers). They offer a 30 day trial so you can test it out before deciding on whether or not to buy.
AdGuard, blockada, or you might even try AdGuard's DNS!
I use Blokada on my MiBox3. You will have to sideload the app and use an app launcher because the file will not show in the main menu for sideloaded apps. You can get a launcher in the google store. Sideloading is just a fancy term for putting the file on a drive and manually uploading it to your MiBox.
