So my Mibox became very unstable with the Oreo Update, and i'm thinking about getting a Shield for a while now, because it has Primevideo support and faster Kodi/UI. With Primeday tomorrow, it is the perfect time to buy one.
Now i wanted to know if the Nvidia Update is better, or if it has the same Problems.
I'm using Oreo on my Shield since the first pre-release and it working absolutely flawless no issue whatsoever.
I didn't have any problems with the 7.0.1 pre-release nor the 7.0.2 final. I signed up too late to try 7.0, but people reported a few issues with it.
The only thing I've seen reported since the final release is something to do with color space switching (or something like that) related to HDR. My TV is 4k, but not HDR, so I'm not clear on the actual issues. Even that one issue only involves futzing around in the menu. I know some people hate the Oreo UI, but that's not a bug.
I'd say from my experience and what I've read around here that there are no major outstanding bugs in Oreo on the Shield.
Shield is worth it during amazon prime sale. Mibox and shield are currently having a contest on who makes the worst firmware. Xiaomi won that contest.
If i am correct, Nvidia shield tv has unlockable bootloader and lineage os official support is available. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I am in the beta group for mi box. The HDCP issues are not yet entirely solved. I am getting no Dolby sounds when the HDCP handshake breaks randomly. Xiaomi will take time to get this done. You can expect a month or two for everything to be flawless. Device will be usable with the coming update.
I have both boxes and even though i haven played around with the MiBox after the update as my brother has it but in any case u will not regret getting the shield. It just has so much going on for it right now! And for 140$ just order it right away is my advice.... and go subscribe for the Geforce Now if you play any games at all ( https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/geforce-now/waitlist/ )
Yea looks like the Shield is not Discounted here in the EU still 199€, kinda sad, but the FireTV 4k for 45€ looks like a good Deal
Have a few MiBoxes and a Shield Pro, since the update I’ve been having more issues with the Shield. Mainly Netflix and Sling randomly closing out and audio not coming back after sleep. I like both boxes but if you don’t have a true need for the Shield I would stick with the MiBox

But, you do know you can sideload the apk for amazon prime on the mibox?
