Anything I'm missing with my Shield TV?

by SativaSammy

I've had the thing for over a year now and still use it everyday. I mainly use it for Twitch, Kodi, Netflix, and emulating retro games up to Dreamcast.

Is there anything I could be doing with this machine that I'm not? I keep hearing people putting uncompressed .mkv on USB drives and playing them but I don't see the point in that for me since I have a 4k disc player.

You use Kodi already. Do you not see the benefit of bluray rips?

Get a HDHomeRun to add DVR capabilities?

Edit: Get the Smartthings stick for smart home stuff?

What emulator do you use?

Instead of constantly switching discs in a player you just archive them all to a NAS storage and play them off the network at their original quality. You can then archive those discs in a basement if you want to.

Regarding your question, depending on what you'd like to do with it, as someone else suggested, you can get a HDHomeRun and add Live TV and DVR capabilities to the Shield.

And if you like current games and have a decent Internet connection you can start doing some serious gaming with GeForce Now, where you can stream games from their cloud datacenters directly to your Shield for free (for now). You can do that with around 260 games at the moment, but the list is constantly growing.
