Best sub 600 dollar Tv with Android Tv built in

by chiefVetinari

Looking to get a TV that will be mounted in our living room. Ideally it'd be good to have an all in one TV as there is a fireplace below where the TV will be.

I currently have a Shield Tv hooked up to our other TV. Is there a mid level TV with Android TV that has say Mibox level or better performance?

Have bad memories of testing an a TV with Android TV built in a few years ago that was terribly slow.

This would be a $450 dumb TV with an NVidia Shield. There is no such thing as a good TV with Android TV built in - they are all underpowered and stuffed full of crapware.

Buy TVs based on picture quality alone. Then add whatever devices you want to it.

Target is selling a newer Android TV with a better SOC. I forget the brand.... It's a budget one.

Honestly, I think you'll be happier with a less expensive TV with a MiBox or another Shield. Smart TVs always seem to disappoint in the performance department.

I appreciate the comments about buying a dumb TV and getting a Shield Tv / Mibox tv separately.

However, in 2018, I've seen plenty of Smart TVs that work well enough. (at least for Roku and Samsung). Tv apps have stabilized in terms of their computing requirements for running the apps over the last few years.

Best suggestions so far for a Tv that would work well enough for Android Tv are the Element Target is selling and Phillips?

I live in the US in case that helps with recommendations.

If you do not need Chromecasting and only need 1080p Netflix with no chance of Prime Video then the faster (than a Mi Box or any TV with Android TV) - AMLogic S912 MECOOL M8S Pro L with Voice remote may be worth a look. It's running Nougat - Android TV.
