Lag when casting desktop to TV with Google Chrome's cast function

by BoJaNYK

Hi guys, I need some help.

I'm having a lag problem when I'm trying to cast my desktop's screen over the Wi-Fi to my Sony Android TV with built-in Chromecast. The mouse and inputs are lagging on the TV for like half a second, which is really frustrating for any type of gaming. I've tried switching the TV from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz Wi-Fi, but it did not help. The distance between the TV and the PC is less than a meter, so that should not be a problem, I guess. Are there some picture settings or something similar that needs to be meddled with for the cast to work smooth?

Thanks.

Chromecast is not made for gaming. The lag will always be there and cannot be eliminated. Try using the Steam link app instead.

The latency delay is due to the encoding/decoding your desktop to the TV. Even with the Nvidia Shield casting the desktop is better compared to the CC but there's still a latency hit. Google Cast was never designed to be low latency (it's more aimed for quality) so I wouldn't recommend it.

As suggested I would try the Steam link app, it's designed for gaming so tries to keep latency very low, which is what you want.
