So I'm considering dumping my MiBox (it's been a good run - got it on day one - but with the bugs from the upgrade it's nearly unusable) and looking into a Shield.
My main concern is the lack of IR support for use with an IR universal remote.
How are you getting around this, if you are? I don't want to have to buy a new universal remote too, on top of buying a new AndroidTV media box.
Any other recommendations to replace my MiBox?
I think there are some usb ir receivers that work with the shield.
Why such a fuss for an IR remote if Bluetooth works just fine?
Flirc probably works with the Shield. Little USB IR receiver. I use it on my Mibox and my harming 650 and it works out great! Check it out.
I do not use the IR remote at all, I use the android TV Remote app and it's flawless.
Works with CEC to wake up TV.
Additional question: Is the shield pro that is currently available compatible with IR remotes?
I made the shift from Mibox to shield a while back. The remote on the mibox is great and being about to program a IR remote is a dream.
Shield remote is SHIT heheh. I have the shield behind my tv about 10 from where I sit and it has horrid response. Not to mention the stupid volume touchpad area.
I love the shield but miss the IR remote
