Android TV not "available" on Philips 55POS9002/12

by ohgodwhyo

Hey everyone,

I have received my new Android TV today but I can't get the Android TV interface to show up. There is this "Home" button on the remote but it doesn't work, it does nothing. The TV is also not available for casting. The Netflix app shows up (also per button on the remote) and the Play Movies "channel" is also working (as it is part of the "Sources" menu for some reason).

I have plugged in a ShieldTV via HDMI and with that everything shows up. I can switch to it via the "Sources" menu and then I can use the TV remote to control it but the "Home" button doesn't work. So I can't go back to the homescreen with the TV remote although any other control is actually working.

Does anybody have any idea what's up here? Why can't I use the TV's Android TV and why is the remote so chunky with the controls?

(All software is up to date, the ShieldTV with O, the TV with Nougat and the TV remote also.)

Sounds like something messed up with the firmware on the TV. Can you still access the settings? If so I would maybe try see if a factory reset could fix it, otherwise perhaps you may need to get it repaired/replaced.

According to the manual, factory reset can be found by pressing the cog wheel icon on the remote -> All Settings -> General Settings -> Reinstall TV.

Give it back under warranty! Something is seriously wrong, I wouldn't keep it, better get a replacement

Okay, I've made a factory reset and now it works. I have no idea why it didn't work the first time though. I've unplugged my ShieldTV before doing the factory reset and the setup, the first time it was plugged in. But that shouldn't make any difference but yeah, it is what it is. Thanks guys!
