USB network adapters that would work with a Sony TV?

by kamikaze2112

I have an XBR55X700D running Android TV and i'm having a hard time streaming 4k content to it over my network. The built in ethernet is 10/100, and I can get 20-25 Mbit/s from a local server when running speed tests. The Wifi is better, getting me around 70-80 Mbit/s, but I still have trouble with some media. The media server has a gig nic, and I can stream files just fine to my laptop. Since the TV has a USB 3 port, I was wondering if there's any known working gig ethernet adapters that would work with this thing. The one I have has a realtek chipset and doesn't seem to work.

Any other thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

Useless getting the network adapter , the onboard chipset will still give you issues.

To test this out, just connect an external hard disk to the tv and play the 4k content that is giving you problems directly, you will see. If it plays it, then buy the adapter, if not, don't bother.

There's a UGreen USB 3.0 hub (3 USB ports and one Gigabit Ethernet port) that works perfectly with mi box.

It also worked with my cheap TCL androidTV tv.

Try it if you don't find a suitable device.

I was looking into that. I have an X900E. Sony specifically says only to use the USB 3 ports for removable storage, and the USB 2.0 ports for everything else. As far as USB 3.0 ethernet ports go, I don't know. I have a couple of USB wired adapters but I think they only run at 100Mbps. Even on USB 2.0 you should still get >200Mbps on a gigabit adapter which should be more than enough for UHD rips. I will test them out and repost.

An alternative, more expensive option would be to buy an nvidia shield. Built int 1000base-t adapter, runs 4k like a dream.

Do you have the latest update? Would try to contact Sony. You should not get 25 mbit on a 100/100 integrated ethernet. I haven’t done a speed test in a while, but I know I’m at lesst getting 75 mbit on my XD80
