Hello,
I am looking for a solution in outputting audio from the Nvidia Shield to my older Denon DRA-F107 receiver, which is connected to my passive stereo speakers. My TV is a LG 60PK990.
The receiver has only analog inputs in the back:

And a jack input in the front (right bottom corner):

The TV has the following connectors:

The TV has no settings, where I can choose to output only audio via analogue composite.
After researching the issue, I found that I have (primarily) two options:
- a HDMI extractor which connects the Shield with the TV (via HMDI) and the AMP (via composite AUX).
- I could connect the TV to the Shield with HDMI and use the digital TOSLINK output (PCM) of the TV to connect the amp. For this purpose I would need a DAC.
My questions are now:
a) What would you recommend out of these two options? Which route offers the best sound?
b) Also: If I choose Option 1), would I be able to play sound files from my Android mobile phone without turning the TV on?
c) What is more expensive: Getting a HDMI extractor or getting a small DAC?
d) Are there other options which I am missing now and can be recommended?
Thank you for your time!
Best option I can see that fits your needs is using a HDMI extractor (HDMI in to HDMI out + 3.5mm out), and then using a 3.5mm to RCA cable. This way it will bypass the TV and you can still cast to the Shield without needing the TV to be on when casting music.
