Me being stupid upgraded to Oreo without realizing the 1028 (i think) build included su access. Firstly is it possible to downgrade? I searched a bit and didn't really turn up an answer. Second question is that if I install the adaway hosts file under root - if I upgraded android later down the line would the hosts file be overwritten?

Yes, everything would be, sans for your app settings being reinstalled, tho it would still break root.
Personally, I use Blokada & have zer0 issues with ads on ATV & none of the root headaches of back in the day.
Yea I was using the awesome Sixaxis app for PS3/PS4 support on that build. Oh well running Oreo now and love it so c'est la vie.
Impossible to downgrade for now.
EDIT: about the hosts, unless xiaomi is doing some crazy shit, it should be indeed reverted to default state after updating.
