Ordered Mi Box 3

by epicincognito

Hi,

I just ordered a Mi Box 3 and it would be delivered by Mon-Tues.

I am well aware of the issues with Oreo but I just need to know if Xiaomi has made the update optional for users, because I heard that a patch has been out for users.

Any news about the scheme of things and what you'd like me to do or how to stop from updating?

I've never had a problem with all three of mine since updating. Not saying the complaints aren't true but I do love the new interface.

I read reddit a lot, but this question compelled me to sign-up. I also just got a Mi Box 3. This is what I found out:

  • There is no problem with the Oreo update when properly implemented, but after installing the update should do a Factory Reset and clear all your data.

  • If you don't do Factory Reset , the update will be in effect, but certain elements will remain in their old state. The first thing I did was install the Oreo update after the initial setup. However, I didn't set up the packaged remote (bought a USB receiver version), and I couldn't seem to pair it after the setup was complete. So I did a Factory Reset to trigger the pairing process.

  • During the second setup process (post-Oreo update), the setup options were different and probably required to some degree to make the Oreo update work the best.

(Note: This is my first post, I have no history here, so take my advice with a grain of salt.)

Don't update to Oreo, there are known problems with it, the most severe of which is AAC 5.1 audio is broken, and the box locks up requiring a hard reset daily. If these 2 things were to get fixed, it would be in a lot better shape, but as it sits now, it is practically worthless.

As long as you don't go into the settings and press update it should remain on the original Marshmallow firmware.

I did face a few bugs like unable to sign after factory reset when wifi is on. Remote mic not working and black screen on sign in.
