External hard drive to run Plex server through Nvidia Shield TV

by UK_Garce

For anyone who uses their Nvidia Shield as a hub for a plex server, what external hard drive do you use or recommend?

I use a regular seagate 2tb external drive and it works great and smooth

I've been using a WD 4TB My Book for about two and a half years as external storage and it's been flawless. The Shield has been DVR'ing massive .TS files directly to it since that became a feature, no issues. MAJOR KEY ALERT THOUGH: make sure to "quick reformat" it to exfat 32 (it comes NTFS) before setup. I think so many problems people have comes down to Android (Shield) not playing nicely with NTFS.

I put an internal HD into an Amazon Basics enclosure and it works just fine for me. I think you can use practically any standard drive and it will be fine. I would stay far away from Seagate though, they are the only drives I've had die on me in less than 4 years.

QNAP NAS here, works like a charm.
