Request: Looking for a guide to pair A RF remote with the Mi Box

by groom_

I've read it is possible to control the Mi box with an IR remote but I can't find any instructions on how to do it. I have paired universal remote controls with TVs before and this normally involves entering a code which is specific to the TV onto the remote and they are paired. I can't see how it is through the usual pairing AndroidTV mechanism to add a phone or BT remote. Any pointers appreciated.

Edit: I've said RF in the title but I think I mean IR instead.

RF remotes use a little USB dongle. There is nothing to pair. You plug the USB dongle into the MiBox and the remote should just work. If it's a new remote, check the battery compartment for the USB dongle.

Getting the remote to function properly is another story. It all depends on the remote and the generic.kl file on the MiBox.

if you have a xiaomi phone with ir blaster (or other phones that have ir blaster, I'm not sure), you can use Mi Remote app on the phone... and then let your universal remote learn from it.

Logitech harmony remotes have the codes with their software. You can get the cheap one for about $25. Other remotes need to be taught by the Logitech remote or have Xiaomi codes built in (most don't).

The commands Logitech has is for the old OS. The new Oreo update appears to have removed a few of them. The only working. commands with Oreo are the ones on the original remote, as well as the Menu button.

Someone posted the IR codes couple months ago, now's with you to get them in the remote (blasting them from your phone or PC): https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/8swphv/mibox_global_cache_ir_codes/
