Is there currently any way to bypass Sony's lockdown preventing Bluetooth headphones and speakers from connecting to their "lower-end" Android TVs?

by MisterSpak

I have a Sony Bravia X750F, 55-inch, running Android 7.0 with Android TV. For some reason, Sony has decided that only their $2,000+ "Triluminos" TVs are compatible with Bluetooth headphones. When I try to pair Bluetooth headphones or speakers to the TV, it doesn't even show them in the Bluetooth pairing menu. I'm able to pair other Bluetooth devices like a game controller or keyboard just fine.

Is there any workaround to this blatant lockdown with no real technical limitation whatsoever?

Yes, plug a Bluetooth transmitter (like this , but there are many) into the headphone out jack of the TV (and USB port for power,) and pair your Bluetooth headphones to that.

Had the same problem with a xf90: by headset not even showing in the pairing screen.

Power went out for a second and the TV fully rebooted. Decided to give it another try and it worked...

Are you sure it has bt transmitter?

I’m not 100% sure but I think this comes down to AndroidTV OS and not the specific manufacturer because both my Shield and my MiBox doesn’t pair to Bluetooth audio devices and now your Sony TV. I doubt they all individually made the decision to block the same set of certain devices so either Google has arbitrarily blocked it or maybe for some reason the OS doesn’t have driver support for BT audio devices.

Edit: I have been proven wrong by multiple people below, it was just my experience with Bluetooth audio devices but as indicated bellow this is not universal. Thank you for the correction

Sounds like a crap TV then. Just saying...
