Can a TV with 1920x1080 resolution rating have a 4:3 panel instead of 16:9 one?

It's technically possible if the pixels aren't square, but it's probably just an incorrect spec. It'd be hard to find a 1920x1080 4:3 panel to plop into a cheap TV.

I doubt it's true in this case as this appears to be a fairly new TV, but I have an old Samsung plasma which supports 1080p input but actually has a 1024 X 768 (4:3) panel - all 16:9 content displays with black bars top and bottom and is probably downsampled to 720p

It's just a typo.

No because that's not a 4:3 aspect ratio. It would need to be 1440x1080 resolution.

I have ordered VU LED TV (Model: 40D6575) from Flipkart (India) and somewhere in the specifications it has been mentioned that the panel's aspect ratio is 4:3 while it also states that it's resolution is 1920x1080.

My doubt/query is:

Is it possible that a TV with 1920x1080 resolution has a 4:3 panel instead of 16:9 one?
