I have an NVIDIA Shield and am very happy with it but looking to buy a second Android TV box (probably a mi 2??). A potential deal breaker is the availability of the Amazon Instant Video app. I know this is on the Shield but a google hasn't really answered the question for other android tv boxes.
Can anyone let me know their own experiences please?
The deal breaker(s) with Oreo Firmward on the Mi Box are:
Not Approved for Prime Video, any Sideloaded App may cease to work at any time.
All Passthrough audio inc. 5.1 DD+ from Netflix and Prime has audio dropouts.
Video playback is a bit choppy with Oreo vs previous Marshmallow Firmware.
Seriously if you need 100% working Prime Video, get Amazon Fire TV hardware.
Prime Video for Android TV works fine so far on my MiBox 3 with sideload. But you never know if it's gonna stop working one day since it's not official supported. I personally never really invested much in Amazon's ecosystem. Got prime membership mainly for free 2-day shipping. If you've already invested heavily in Amazon's ecosystem, maybe a cheap Fire TV device is a better option.
