State of AndroidTV on x86

by crays1223

I've been looking into the state of AndroidTV on x86 as I have a mini PC I would love to throw AndroidTV on. I've created the usb drive and done some reading on XDA. My questions, does most hardware work? What doesn't work? Does anyone have experience in this sub running on normal pc hardware?

You can't really DIY an Android TV solution due to various certifications/DRM needed for many services/functions to work. Namely - Netflix, Chromecasting and Copy Once channel viewing if using HDHR Prime with Live Channels and HDHR app. The Google Play Store also will take note of certified and non-certified devices, and app developers could potentially use that as a requirement to allow downloads or not.

I just checked the projects website for the first time in a year and the same issue still exists which is a deal breaker for me.

- HDMI Audio.

sure i guess you could use a 3.5mm jack or SPDIF but i have no soundbar or speaker system, just a plain tv

Besides that i thought it was pretty unstable.

Personally there are 3 options for media players right now.

- Simple SMB computer running linux and kodi

- Get an AndroidTV box like Mibox or Nvidia Shield

- Buy a dodgy android box and use a tv friendly launcher from the play store like HAL

Android TV 7.1 works great on my Dell Optiplex with just some minor incompatibilities which seem corrected in Android 8.1 but Android TV is not ported to Android 8.1 yet. I am going to see if I can do it.
