i am guessing because the when i go to install update the device reboots when installing bootloader this is because the bootloader is locked? is there any way to unlock it, it doesn't seem like it by googleing it.

Hi,

I was also a victim of stucked in recovery, when trying to update from 2179 update

I tried to 2 different usb (8GB) , all failed and stucked at recovery.

Then I tried another USB (4GB) formatted to FAT32 and copied the update.zip and xiomai_update files. Tried flashing and it succeeded.

While installation , the device rebooted thrice and finally succeeded.

Please be careful with update.zip file, someone uploaded with corrupted file. I was getting a signature verification error due to corrupted file.

I HAVE SOLVED THE BRICK ISSUE:

I tried to update to 2179 and got stuck in recovery loop - manual flash as well as with the xiaomi update file not working. To solve it do this -

First:

Download THIS update ZIP ( BEWARE that this will put you on Build 2167 (but i guess thats better than nothing)):

https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1ye03gIzwObn0huyuZDUfm9Kbpv4NqqKN&export=download

Then Proceed as @Mega91 suggested:

Make sure of these before you proceed...

The filename is xiaomi_updatewithout extension, and contains a single line--update_package=/udisk/update.zip

The "update" file called update.zip

Then...

From recovery menu, select "wipe cache partition" followed by "wipe data/factory reset"

From recovery menu, select "power off"

Remove power plug from Mibox.

Press and hold BACK arrow and OK button (Do not touch any other adjacent buttons).

Reconnect power.

It should start recovery mode and automatically start update NO MENU SELECTION REQUIRED

EDIT

- after this i now was also able to flash the 2179 zip using the same steps as above!

Try flashing the first version of Oreo and try from there? I had a similar issue during upgrading from 2174 to 2175
