Mi Box owner running Oreo. Will a TV tuner integrate with Live Channels, and if so does it matter which one I get?

by ManInBlack829

I'm really interested in getting a tuner and antenna for football season, but before I throw down the money on a TV tuner I want to see if it works with the Mi Box.

I've been searching, gotten mixed results. I've read great things about the HDHomeRun but I don't know if something like that is still necessary after Nougat.

You need to state which part of the world you live in first due to different DVB and ATSC TV standards.

You cannot just plug a TV tuner to any media player no matter what it is. Just because something works on one box does not mean it will work with others, even if it is running the same OS.

For plug in TV tuner support, you need Linux Kernel and driver support and also software to tune the TV channels. The Mi Box has none of those with its standard Oreo setup.

The other problem with the Mi Box, especially for those that need 50Hz TV viewing support is TV deinterlacing quality is rubbish and produces half motion picture quality. You get video combing and blocky picture artifacts. No good at all for sports action viewing.

Avoid at all costs would be my recommendation for anything to do with OTA TV viewing on the Mi Box.
