Is there a step-by-step tutorial for DVR recording in Live Channels?

I have an older HDHomerun on a mostly wired network. I had DVR recording working about a year or two ago. I remember it involved a "Network Tuner" input source which now doesn't seem to exist anymore. I have the the HDHomerun App as my source now. There is a 4TB USB drive hooked up to my Shield, formatted as internal storage. Plenty of space. Whenever I click on a future show in the guide, it says something like show cannot be recorded. Was this functionality removed? Am I missing something?

Edit: And before anyone suggests it, I'm not interested in any subscription-based solution like Plex Pass, or using any other software like Kodi. Thanks.

As far as I can tell this is a problem with Live Channels since the 2017 fall update. It does appear that Live Channels is ignoring the issue and all communication about it.

Sorry your only recourse is to pay either HDHomerun or Plex for their DVR or use a Kodi type DVR which is a bit hard to implement. A bit of learning will be needed.

Getting the network tuner to be available is a bit buggy but it's the only way to use the recording feature. I had to uninstall the hd homerun app, uninstall live channels, restart, reinstall live channels, open the app, restart, and then open it again before the network tuner beta showed up. You may want to try that type of thing until you get the network tuner back

After you have your channels sourced through network tuner beta in live channels, you can then reinstall the hd homerun app if you want to but it's not necessary either. If you do set up the hdhomerun as an additional source in live channels, you will need to make sure you are using the network tuner beta channels when you want to record.

The API exists, but it looks like the Live Channels App needs to be updated first.

This is because you are using the HDHomerun app as a source and they want you to use their DVR service.

Not sure why you're not seeing the Network Tuner. Are you sure you are on the latest version of Live Channels?
