Soon I will be replacing my direct tv dish with an antenna. what i would like to is get a tv tuner that will feed into the live channels app on a shield tv in the living room and a mibox in the bedroom.
From what I've read using Live Channels will get me free EPG data as well as time shifting ability. I do not need recording ability.
Is there an affordable tuner that I can buy to use for both boxes? Or maybe need 2? Thanks for your input.

I think you may need 2 tuners, if going with Hauppage, one for each box. If I remember correctly the dual tuners physically plug into a single box via USB and enable picture in picture, but don't have the ability to run two hdmis to two boxes.
Do you have a house wired with coax? Can you put an antenna outside? I would get a USB tuner for each box then connect it to your house coax that is connected to an HD antenna outside. Much better than those dinky little flat antennas.

Since you are planning to supply two devices (the Shield and the MiBox), I think an HDHomeRun would be ideal for you. It will work over your network, so you can supply both boxes using one device rather than having to use 2 USB tuners (and possibly 2 separate antennas).

The Plex DVR solution Ive have heard is buggy.
The Mi box will have the worst support for use with any USB tuners.
I would not use the Mi Box at all for high quality Live TV, it has the worst, unreliable deinterlaced picture quality I've seen out of virtually any Android device. Be aware I've only tested 25i deinterlacing.
I use an HDHomerun and access it on both my MiBoxes and my Nvidia Shield. Works with Live Channels. Only allows for two streams concurrently.
