I hate the black background on the closed captions on the default app. Is there a way to remove that? I know you can bypass that by using third party players, but I'd like to know if there's a way to change it on the default app. If there is a good third-party app, please recommend it.

Does it not follow the system-wide CC settings you have set up in your Settings app? For me, that's generally one of the benefits of Android TV over Chromecast because on Chromecast you can't ditch the black background.
