DNS based Adblocker solutions no longer working after Oreo update

by dmachop

DNS based adblockers like blokada or DNS66 had stopped working or broke completely after oreo update. After the update, it looked like VPN established does not connect to the internet at all. Anyway to work around this? I see a lot of youtube based ads that are cropping up about a week ago. Using these did not entirely block ads but mitigated those. Using Mibox.

i use pi-hole, and have noticed some youtube ads as well.. it could be that youtube started serving ads from a youtube.com domain, instead of a seperate domain.

I thought I was the only one lol, I was using blokada to block ads from FreeForm app and it was working great until the update.

I have tried android adblockers before, but found them unreliable at best. Totally gave up on them, and applied an adblocking dns to my router. Bam, problem solved for the whole house.

Admittedly this solution will not work if you are using a data connection.
