So you saying new ones at the store have 8.1 installed or the 8.1 update is available to download for current owners? Your post is confusing.

This is a bad post.

TL;dr - don't buy a mi box now unless you don't like Netflix. Wait for the redesigned remote version/clearance of old model. Also 8.1 should soon release but you'll need to check for it manually, the mi box won't tell you it's there.

Do you mean to say that the MDZ-16-AB (international Mibox) we have will receive Android 8.1, or that there will be a new Mibox released in the USA?

I have read about MDZ-22-AB: what can you tell me about it? It looks like the same chipset. What is different besides running Android 8.1? I understand the following to be true:

• Hardware is the same. S905X chipset, same ROM, same eMMC size.
• The remote is different and has hard buttons for things like Netflix (like the Roku does).
• It is sold running Oreo out of box.

If that is the only reason, why a new model? MDZ-16-AB is the same except for the remote.
