Wi-Fi Dongle for Mi Box Android TV? Slow Wi-Fi after Oreo Update

by threehappypenguins

My in-laws have been cursed with slow Wi-Fi speeds since the Oreo update. In fact, it's so slow, that they can't even stream videos (YouTube, Netflix, etc). I opened "Stats for Nerds" on YouTube and they're not even getting 1 Mbps download, the buffer health is poor (obviously), and the framerate drops are obscene.

I considered downgrading to Marshmallow (6.0), but I read that the Mi Box will just force another Oreo upgrade. Also, I don't want to risk losing DRM for Netflix.

So I thought that an economical solution would be to buy a Wi-Fi USB adapter. There are a lot of people out there who have bought ethernet USB adapters, but has anyone bought a Wi-Fi adapter? Which ones work? I am considering this cheap one from Amazon (they only have 100 Mbps internet anyway).

Edit - Thanks koshergoy:

find and flash Oreo bugfix build 2179

I'm going to download and flash bugfix build 2179 manually (I'm not part of the beta program), and report whether it resolves my issues.

I don't think that adapter will work with your Android box.

Have you tried a factory reset.

Also it's a possibility it's a network settings on your mii box or your router.

Your going to need a usb to Ethernet adapter, I used one i had for my Wii on my nexus player and it worked

Have you done any other troubleshooting to verify it's the Mi Box and not something else? What is the proximity of the wireless router? How is the performance for other devices on the network (phone, laptop, desktop, etc.)? Any difference in speed wired vs. wireless? Is a USB wired Ethernet not feasible?
