Xiaomi Mi box sometimes hangs after hours of streaming video

by sotirisbos

Hello!

I have 4 Xiaomi Mi boxes that I use around the house.

Two of them happen to run almost 12 hours a day streaming TV.

I am taking the DVB-T signal from my aerial, passing it through TVHeadend on a Linux box and streaming it over WiFi to the Mi boxes that have the AndroidTV TVHeadend app running. I used to use MuMuDVB on the Linux box and TVirl on the MI boxes and had the same problem.

Quite frequently, the two almost constant running Mi boxes hang. Sometimes I can exit the Live Channels APP, but most of the times the boxes are unresponsive and I have to unplug the power.

It is quite hot here and I thought that was the reason. I took a 12v 120mm computer fan and replaced the plug with a USB one. I have the fan underneath one of the boxes running constantly (at lower rpm due to the 5v). It seems like it sometimes helps and sometimes it doesn't. It still hangs in random moments, usually after hours of streaming.

Has anyone had any similar problems? Any ideas on how to diagnose? Main culprits in my mind are either overheating, some sort of memory leak or overflow or connectivity issues that cause the Live Channels APP to hang. It only seems to happen after 6-8 + hours but I have also left it on for 30+ hours to test without it hanging.

All AMLogic Android devices will only give you half motion, poor quality deinterlaced broadcast TV picture outputs. They included using Android Live Channels with TvH or a HDHomerun and also Kodi Krypton / Leia.

You are dealing with a buggy AMLogic Android EXOplayer, Mediacodec deinterlacing issue. It's been ongoing for two years now on all AMLogic Android hardware.

Comparatively on the same hardware if you were to run the LibreELEC Kodi Krypton OS you would have no issues at all with deinterlaced TV picture quality with TvH or using a HDHomerun.

What I'm saying is basically you should avoid AMLogic Android all together for reliable high quality TV viewing. There is NO fix.

What firmware version are you running?

Is the TVHE app written for the Oreo sdk?
