The era of crappy performing Sony Android TVs may finally be over.

New Sony TVs that just launched. UI performance looks fantastic compared to the old chipset. Also, 4GB of RAM and 4xCortex A73 at 8:08 in the video.

The performance was always bottlenecked by the CPU/GPU. Great to see A73 cores. That puts it on par with Nvidia Shield performance. Combined with Sony upscaling/picture processing/local dimming zones, this will be a LCD/LED TV to beat.

But as always, it will cost a fortune in Canada.

What? have they figured out that spending 20 dollars more on the CPU can make their TVs run 100x better?

Holy cow. But the do run Oreo, so I guess some of the increase in speed could be due to that. Nevertheless it looks very fast! I got a XD80 and it is so slow (same chipset as XE and XF?)

I have an 800D whose WiFi has been off for ages (too goddamn chatty on my network with the sambatv/flingo bullshit).

I use an Nvidia Shield.

It will be the advanced ARM Mali G-71 GPU people should be concentrating on.

Stuff like ASTC, AFBC, SC and TE to reduce memory bandwidth needed for data transfer and display rendering.

It's memory bandwidth that is usually the bottleneck when you talk about GPU performance.

There is a whole bunch of advanced tech in that GPU for a fast, speedy, smooth Android TV OS:

Oreo itself has a bunch of optimisation in the OS for better performance as well, even on relatively low powered, older ARM based devices like the Mi Box.

Both Google and Apple are currently on OS optimisation release cycles to benefit low powered chipset devices.

Please let the next one's be as speedy and nippy as that video shows for the entire time you use it. I bought an X8509 and I love it but God damn it's been a chore at times. I've had to reset it about 3-4 times since I bought it and it gets a hard restart about once a week.

The upsides are that the picture is great and my family loves the whole single remote usage for prime, Netflix, YouTube and Plex. It just needs a bit more resource.

Great news, would like to have a TV with flawless 4K UHD Remux playback and great UI performance so no need for an external device such as the SHIELD..

I've been super happy with the performance of my Sony Android TV's. (900E & 850C). The 850C I've had an issue or two while using Plex. But overall, it's been a good experience.

Oh, don’t worry. Sony will find some extra bloatware to preinstall and use up those extra resources. I have a 850d and a 900e and while I love the picture the menu and bloated firmware are a real downer. I’m still furious that I can’t change picture modes with my Harmony remote because they are 3 levels deep in a menu! Sony always finds a way to sabotage their otherwise fantastic hardware.

Why don't Google just replace androidTV with ChromeOS at this point? Would make much more sense. Just provide tv store access to the os and you are set. 😅😁

OldStyleRevival

I just hope it's less buggy. Some weird things with my W800c happen all the time like leaving a USB plugged in overnight and leaving NordVPN in Auto Connect mode on won't let the TV startup in the mornings. It's a bit frustrating.
