OnePlus announces plans to launch OnePlus TV

If they also launched an AndroidTV Box with a HW and price tag between MiBox and Shield and the same good work on firmware and support that they do on their phones, it would be a must buy from me.

My 10 minutes of internet searching doesn't answer my most important question, before even getting into what kind of hardware specs it has. Is it:

  1. An actual TV (the article says "it will indeed be a smart television", but the forum post doesn't)

  2. A STB

In either case, I'm assuming it will be a real Android TV OS with Leanback UI support. I'll be very sad if I see a OnePlus with a movable cursor on the screen to click things.

As an owner of several OnePlus phones, I'm cautiously hopeful. My main attraction to the OnePlus was affordability and Stock(-ish) OS, so having a TV Box that undercuts the Shield TV would be really nice.

Out of every device OnePlus could launch... Why TV? Laptop or tablet I would likely buy, and refresh cycle is much slower with TVs than portable devices, meaning I will not be looking at another TV for probably 5+ years. If it is just a box, then idk.

I can guarantee that until OnePlus decides to keep supporting the software for a long time, the TV will be a flop. As is the case with most smart tvs. I would prefer a proper box anyday.

Anyone else find their slogan "never settle" to be ironic? Their latest phone 6T .... No removable battery, no microSD, USB 2.0 via C connector, fragile glass on both sides. I can only assume their TV device will be missing Ethernet, USB, mpeg2 hardware decoder, no volume buttons on remote, etc.
