They made the nexus player but that's done with now. I also wonder why they don't go all out with a fire tv type line up.
They did. The Nexus Player. Then NVIDIA released the Shield and gave everyone else an unattainable goal.
You should be asking Qualcomm why they haven't worked with anyone on a box. So far it's only been Intel, NVIDIA, and Amlogic chips.
They created a reference design and are providing it to developers
ADT-2
They seemingly just haven't felt that the boxes are worth the investment right now. The fact that they don't have a flagship device (Shield is not Google's flagship device), a Pixel Player, is crazy to me.
I hope they invest in the external streaming box market soon and go head to head with the likes of Apple, Roku, and Amazon.
I'm guessing that they won't and just keep up the old tech (Chromecast) that needs a middleman device to operate. Casting is a great feature that is useful in a pinch... but that's about it.
No one knows.
There's only one Android TV box lol. Shield
What's wrong with Shield? Google is more of a platform company than hardware maker like Apple.
