Still no framerate switching on Shield TV?

by marvinorman

I have been tempted lately to upgrade my Mi Box to a Nvidia Shield TV. But from the looks of it, the shield tv still does not support framerate switching for apps such as Netflix or Youtube. I'm not sure if Android TV is the underlying issue here, or just lazy app developers that have yet to implement the support to take advantage of this.

Because of this, i might have to consider an Apple TV 4K instead. But i would rather not, since i would miss some of the features such as sideloading apps, chromecast etc. I'm also not in the Apple ecosystem, so i currently have no devices that can integrate with an Apple TV.

Is there any word yet on when we can expect framerate switching for these apps?

Framerate switching needs to be implemented at the app level in Android TV. Plenty of apps do it like Plex or Kodi, but Netflix or YouTube does not.

You can look into using the Netflix kodi add-on. It works pretty awesome with framerate switching on my Shield, you could try it on your Mi box first.

If you can, set the Shield for 60Hz (or 59.94Hz) output. Juddering is noticeable on 24fps content shown on at 30fps or vice versa, but 24fps or 30fps content on a 60Hz display just looks like 24fps or 30fps content.
