Maybe, but it would require a button mapper and that uses Accessibility. Unfortunately Accessibility is bugged in all Oreo devices. You will get graphical bugs on the home screen as well as forced menus when selecting any app to open.
You can try one, but it's more of a nuisance than helpful right now, imo. Just search Google Play on your device to try.

Yea the Mic for search on Mi Box barely ever works right even with Oreo, (it's the only thing that doesn't work for me as of build 2303). It would be nice to repurpose it.
