Brand new MX10 no audio at all

I just got an MX10 Android TV box running Oreo, using the hdmi for picture and trying to use spidif for audio. I can select automatic or spidif in the options, neither produces any sound, and just to test I've also hooked up 3.5mm out going from the TV (well, monitor). I've made sure the device volume is up, and obviously have checked the hifi side is working. Just got no idea what to do, have watched a couple of YouTube vids but mostly they aren't specific to Oreo. I've also tried a full reset.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Edit: ok I now have some sound. Of I remove the spidif cable then the hdmi > 3.5mm audio works! Not ideal though, I pretty much chose this box because it has spidif out. Any ideas how I could get that working?

Unfortunately that box isn't an Android TV box with the Android TV OS.

This sub is for the Android TV OS so you probably won't get much help here. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?

You can maybe return it and get an Android TV box like the SHIELD or Mi Box and use a USB SPDIF adapter.

You could try r/androidtvboxes but it's pretty dead.

Return it if you can and get a shield. Proper android tv is the way to go.
